Taking Charge and Exceeding Goals
Take Charge! Our Take Charge! program has engaged 1,113 Student Energy Ambassador volunteers, who have reached 15,207 students and another 20,244 adults all across Colorado with resources on how to save energy. The Student Energy Ambassadors exchanged 6,250 incandescent porch bulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs, resulting in enormous savings of 431,250 kWh per year and energy costs of $38,813 per year. Follow up evaluation has found that the students inspired people to become much more energy efficient, saving an additional $340,000 per year and reducing CO2 emissions by 2,500 tons per year. Thank you to all our Student Energy Ambassadors who have made it possible for us to go above and beyond our program goals!

New Green Bikes for the Green Team!
New Green Bikes

Thanks to a new partnership with the Colorado Mountain Bike Association (COMBA) and support from REI and Wheat Ridge Cyclery, Groundwork Denver's Green Team is now outfitted with eight new green Specialized mountain bikes. These new bicycles will be used by youth team members to travel to and from projects including community gardens, river cleanups and neighborhood energy actions. The addition of these mountain bikes is a huge boost to the capacity of the youth to continue their work as urban environmentalists and community stewards. On top of providing the Green Team with the new bicycles, COMBA will also be training Green Team members in sustainable trail design, construction, and maintenance plus teaching them skills in recreational mountain biking.

• 15 trees planted
• 65+ trees mulched
• 15 full size bags of trash removed
• 3 new park benches installed
• 4 picnic tables, playground equipment and 2 trail bridges repainted
• Safe surface installed at 2 playgrounds

Thanks to Vail Resorts and Denver Parks and Recreation for making this day a great success!

Green Teamers Work in Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone

Alongside Green Team members from five other Groundwork Trusts, Groundwork Denver Green Team members Alex Russell, Rene Garcia, Silivere Bakomeza, Selena Pina, participated in a week long pilot project at Yellowstone National Park aimed at engaging diverse urban youth in Public Land conservation. Their week included training and instruction in natural resource conservation and presentations on Yellowstone history and ecology. The youth maintained and improved trails, removed brush, built and removed fencing, painted buildings, re-vegetated disturbed land and collected native seed. But the trip was not all work and no play: the youth also had the opportunity to tour the park and visit some of its most famous and breathtaking sites among other recreational activities. The Groundwork network has a deep relationship with the National Park Service, helping them to explore relevancy of the National Park system to the growing and diversifying urban U.S. population.

Why Choose Groundwork Denver for Colorado Gives Day?
donate We are doers, not talkers. We plant trees, we clean up rivers, we build trails and sidewalks, we fix up and give away bikes, we insulate houses, and we coordinate thousands of volunteers to help. We're changing the lives of the youth who work for us, the thousands who volunteer for us, and the people who live in the communities where we work.
