Taking Charge and Exceeding Goals

Our Take Charge! program has engaged 1,113 Student Energy Ambassador volunteers, who have reached 15,207 students and another 20,244 adults all across Colorado with resources on how to save energy. The Student Energy Ambassadors exchanged 6,250 incandescent porch bulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs, resulting in enormous savings of 431,250 kWh per year and energy costs of $38,813 per year. Follow up evaluation has found that the students inspired people to become much more energy efficient, saving an additional $340,000 per year and reducing CO2 emissions by 2,500 tons per year. Thank you to all our Student Energy Ambassadors who have made it possible for us to go above and beyond our program goals!

Groundwork Colorado's funding for the "Colorado Student Energy Awareness and Outreach Project" was provided with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 grant funds awarded by the U. S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration. Currently, the majority of the total cost of this project is financed with Federal money, and there are $330,000 in Federal funds for this project. This initiative is sponsored by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, the Colorado Workforce Development Council, and the Colorado State Energy Partnership Coalition.
